Queer Cinema Club XLVIII: Guidance

On March 10th, we’re continuing our “local queeroes” series with a celebration of wonderful Toronto filmmaker Pat Mills and his 2015 debut feature Guidance

A delightful and warm gem of a film that Mills wrote, directed and stars in, Guidance follows a very messy former child actor (Mills) who fabricates some credentials to take a job as a high school guidance counsellor. He manages to unexpectedly become quite popular in his new gig, primarily because of how much the students take to the deeply unhealthy coping mechanisms he offers up.

Mills and several other special guests from the film will be in attendance at the screening, and will be sticking around for a Q&A after.

This screening’s poster was created by another local queero: Maurice Vellekoop, whose extraordinary 2024 graphic memoir I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together recently won the Toronto Book Award (do get yourself a copy if you haven’t).

Guidance will be preceded by Steen Starr’s hilarious mockumentary short Putting The “I” In Trans. This is the second edition of our new initiative to screen local shorts from Queer Cinema Club fam before select features!

Tickets are available here.
